Nicole Brandes is the founding director of The Children’s Art Studio. Nicole holds a Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts from the University of California where she studied Art History and Studio Art. She has taught drawing and painting in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Henry Street Art Settlement and the New York City Public School system. In Washington, she has taught at the Maryland College of Art, the Fillmore Art Center, the Lab School of Washington and at Bancroft Elementary School, where she was the lead instructor for over five hundred children. Nicole is a practicing visual artist and is represented by the Pierogi Gallery in Brooklyn, New York and has received the Puffin Award, Art Matters Award and Russell Award for Artistic Excellence. Her work has been shown by Apex Art and Printed Matter in New York City, School 33 in Baltimore and Gasworks Gallery in London.
Pamela Cohelan Benson earned a BA, with an emphasis on Fine Arts, at Goddard College. While serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines, her watercolor paintings toured the country in an exhibit sponsored by USIS. She later lived and worked in India, Turkey, Zambia, Liberia, Kenya, and Cote d’Ivoire. She holds an MA in Linguistics from Southern Illinois University and has published several articles on her life abroad. She received a Fulbright-Hays grant for a seminar on indigenous people in Mexico and Guatemala in the summer of 2000. From 1989 until 2002, she was a teacher at Sidwell Friends School.
Andrea Miric has a classical training in Fine Arts from the University of Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She has worked in the United States as a Graphic Designer for USAID and as an Illustrator for the Association for Interior Designers. She received her degree in Graphic Design form Montgomery College and UDC. She speaks four languages and brings an international perspective to her teaching.
Jae Han received her BA from The Rhode Island School of Design and worked in New York as a graphic designer for Conde Nast Publications. She is a practicing artist, working with a wide range of materials and ideas. She is also the mother of three active, wonderful boys. She is an extremely talented artist and a caring, thoughtful teacher.
